The UN, International Election Observation, and Global Support for Democratic Elections

On Wednesday, February 28th, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm the UNA-NCA Human Rights Committee will host Doug Wake, former First Deputy Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) to moderate a panel discussion on the topics of election observation activities.

The UN, International Election Observation, and Global Support for Democratic Elections, will focus on the vital efforts of international organizations such as the UN, in supporting democratic elections through technical assistance and international observation missions. Heather Hill, UNA-NCA Human Rights Committee Chair, will provide brief opening remarks and Doug Wake will moderate the discussion.

The speakers include:

  • Dr. Beata Martin-Rozumiowicz, Director for Europe and Eurasia, International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES)
  • Hassan Kelleh Sesay, Electoral Assistance Division – Department of Political Affairs, United Nations Headquarters
  • Cristobal Fernandez, Section Chief – Electoral Technical Cooperation, Organization of American States
